On Sunday, on my way home to CT, I stopped in to go to church, have lunch and visit with my Mumsie. She has always been fascinated with miniatures, and has built many fun little houses in her day. This one, put together in an old medicine cabinet, hangs in the kitchen I grew up in. I propped a spoon up in the mini studio, so you can get a sense of scale. She makes a lot of her own furniture and many of the accessories. She clips pictures from catalogs for wall art, uses beads for pencil holders and pin heads for drawer pulls. If you look carefully, you can see a tiny print of a painting my Dad did of our family's church.
She has also made some lovely, all natural pieces, using twigs, seeds, acorns and bark.
Sometimes, while waiting for the tea kettle to come to a boil, you can get lost in her little worlds...
Wow, that's amazing! And i love the fun details! much more interesting than a lot of doll houses that have a few pieces of kit-built furniture and that's all. I'm glad to see both dogs and cats living there too :).
ReplyDeleteI can vouch for the wonderfulness of your mother's work, Karen.
ReplyDeleteShe is also a talented artist who has inspired me for many years! I feel so fortunate to have her as a mentor and a friend.
Good to see the glass-fronted house. It always fascinates me!
Glad you had a nice visit.
The first thing I saw on this post was the first picture only and I thought "why does Gram Elaine have a giant spoon in her room?" Then I saw the second photo! I am extremely tired but even upon closer inspection the rooms look very real.
ReplyDeleteIncredible!
ReplyDeleteoh my GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes clever and brilliant and talented and wonderful. These should be in a book. Or a museum. How lucky to have them right there to get lost in. I'm in awe and in love!
Thank you for sharing these.
Off to get lost.
That is so cool, I think I want to live in that medicine cabinet!
ReplyDeleteIf you hadn't put the spoon there..... well, I would have thought ...perhaps it's her crafting space..... what an amazing job your Mum does.....
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful little world!
