poetry in april, especially

J reminded me that April is National Poetry Month,
and they're reading a poem every night at dinner over at their house.

Here's a stack of my favorite books of poetry.
Some are very well worn,
some I am still getting to know.

Here's a beauty of a poem for a brisk, spring afternoon...
Love Calls Us to the Things of This World
by Richard Wilbur

Do you have a favorite poet?

  1. Gosh -- to name just one? I'm not sure I can do that. But I'm intrigued by your pile; I had no idea Cynthia Rylant wrote poetry! She's one of my favorite children's authors. I'm going to have to check this out.

  2. I love Emily Dickinson, Sarah Teasdale, Langston Hughs and Elizabeth Coatsworth. But there are so many contemporary poets I have yet to discover! Thanks, Karen, for bringing attention to National Poetry Month.

  5. Hi Karen,
I love your blog. I think I need your recommendations on poetry. I always check random poetry books out of the library, but some are hard to connect to.
