oh happy day!

it's september!
i'm an autumn girl, 100%.
and what a fine september day it is here in CT.
clear, blue sky, chill in the air...
perfection!
time to crack open one of my favorite simple (and a wee bit corny) pleasures.
aga stoves, bracing walks, gentle romance.
it's all here in rosamunde pilcher's september.
(are you with me, cathleen?)
also on my mind...
mending.
an old bath mat, frayed around the edges, but otherwise thirsty.
homemade binding, and voila, it's new again.
masking tape on my kitchen radio antenna.
a patch of calico on the worn elbow of a cozy flannel shirt.
duct tape to mend the seam on a vinyl tote bag.

just doin' my best to live greener.

how do you extend the life of things that are worn?

  1. Patches on my jeans, and patches on patches - and hankies out of old shirts. And bags from pillowcases, old skirts ... especially bags!

  2. It's even cool and crisp down here in Virginia. My mind immediately turned toward apples, apple cider, and cinnamon donuts. Last night i took my shower with the window open above the shower...definitely late summer/early fall sounds of crickets (while this weekend when it was still in the 90s, the sound was the cicada chorus)...and the bright moon in amongst the maple's branches.

  3. OMG Karen - I have read and loved all of these books!!! Now you've started a longing in me to read 'September' once again!!
I have an ongoing mending pile, and am always fixing worn things around the house. I take after my dad in that regard.
The cool weather we've had the last couple of days has me longing for autumn!

  4. What a treat to know that Ms. Pilcher is a guilty pleasure for other folks too! (Another in her vein: School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister) Using my hoe and trowel instead of chemicals on our endless weeds is my main green activity these days.

  6. Pomona-glad to hear of patching in the UK!

Paula-my mouth watered when I thought of cinnamon donuts!

Judy, Deb and Nan, I've heard that R's son writes as well...have you read any of his work? And Deb, thanks for the new title.
