the crisp and clear and energizing days of autumn
have been slow in coming
to our neck of the woods in southern new england.
the ambitious monday morning "to do"list
i started out with has fizzled
in the weariness and humidity of the late afternoon.
when in doubt, i say,
have tea and a snack on the porch.
and hope that tomorrow dawns
with a chill.
This is clearly a ritual that makes sense. I'll meet you on the porch for tomorrow's ritual. Of course, you will be looking at the beautiful colors of autumn in New England. I'll be looking at an old arroyo that passes by the house.
ReplyDeleteI am certain that tomorrow will dawn with an invigorating chill.
Well, drink your tea iced tomorrow and the chill will be with you! Otherwise, I think it will be a few days yet. It's so odd, this weather. And, while I'd hoped for a pretty fall, it seems our trees' leaves are rotting as they hang. Hopefully, it will all turn . . .
ReplyDeleteoh, how i would love to meet you on your porch for a snack and to give you a big fat thank you hug!!!!
ReplyDeleteyes... e.e.p. SHINES on, thanks to perfectly wonderful friends like you
xo
We're starting out our mornings with a chill here, and warming by afternoon. My tomatoes seem to have decided it's too cold to turn red! Porches are good places:)
ReplyDeleteSuch a refreshingly pretty photo, Karen!
ReplyDeleteI agree - a snack on the porch always revives a wilting spirit!
Gorgeous photo and snack - refreshing to the spirit even just to see it. Hope your autumn afternoons grow cool but are still beautiful. Did you know that in French, the afternoon snack (at 4 pm) is called "gouter" (to taste)? I love that - a pause in the afternoon to give you a taste, of food yes, but perhaps also of something else than what you've been laboring over, a way to recharge.
