rolling along

(sorry the image is so tiny...i used my phone camera)
Today I drove over the Allegheny River, and the Miami River too, past patchworks of farm fields, some plowed, some planted. Rock and roll oldies on the radio...Beatles, Rolling Stones, the Eagles, Earth Wind and Fire. So many "wide loads" had me guessing about their mysterious cargo. But check out this towing old blue Cadillac, that looked like it had just seen the light of day after sitting in a barn for decades! What a beauty. I wonder where she's headed.

As I watched two lanes of heavy truck traffic stream along on the other side of I-40, I wondered about the folks who drive for a after day. And I wondered about a nation so dependent on shipping our goods from one end of the country to another. I find there's plenty of time to ponder, while those miles tick along on the odometer.

Thanks for your comments yesterday. They were fun to read.

I'm safely in Richmond, IN, home of my beloved Earlham College, with good work to do tomorrow.

  1. You really amaze me, Karen! Hope your work goes well. I can imagine the thinking you must have done on such a long drive! Safe journeys home!

  2. Be safe and enjoy your time both on the road and at your destinations. Sometimes turning things over in your mind while driving helps work out some of the snags you will run into when actually handling the plow. It works for me.

  3. I love traveling to be with friends. Last year after 20 my grad school friends and I had a ladies weekend in Cape May. We had such a great time, we're doing it again this year in DC. I love to listen to novels on CDs as I head down the road to wonderful adventures. This summer my family is heading West to see Bryce, Zion and Grand Canyon national parks. We're flying (uuuuggghhh). If we had endless time, I'd want to drive there nice and slow on the old roads.

  4. Glad you arrived safely! Have a great weekend:)

  5. At Shelby's graduation this weekend we saw the schools all the graduates will attend, and Earlham is getting one IMSA student - hurrah!
