how lucky, how lucky, how lucky we are...

solstice beauty

we are gathered near the shore of lake michigan,

where the sun will set at 9:33 tonight.

lots of time to play outdoors.

fallow

i will be away for a bit.

this little blog will take a rest.

as our four children grew up and out into the world,

they scattered to many corners of the country.

next week we will all be gathered together

for the first time in ages.

we will frolic in places that we remember fondly.

ahhh...the spaciousness of a summer evening.

exquisitely humble spud

Take a lovely French butter keeper,

(this one purchased during the Open Studio weekend, 

from Deborah at Flint Hill Pottery).

Fill it with the most special treat of local, organic butter.

Chop some homegrown chives.

Add some sea salt and freshly ground pepper.

Heap on top of an organic baked potato, 

and you've got yourself a very fine bit of food.

Remembering where all these ingredients came from

while we held hands around the table made it all

taste even better.

basting gretta's first quilt

Remember the quilt that Gretta made 

during her internship at Ink and Spindle?

We finally made time to baste it. 

She'll be hand quilting it this summer,

 in between singing, playing and farming with her young campers.

Maybe she'll even let me put a few stitches into it

when she visits us on weekends at 

"a bit of earth".
